Everything that is good comes from God.... He truly loves you.
Written by Jade Hansen:
"Yesterday, after reading several things from John Eldredge and others, I was taught some things that I don't know that I completely understood previously. Take this quote from John, for instance.
"Every wonderful thing in your life is a gift from God, an expression of his heart toward you. All your precious memories, each and every one—your eighth birthday, when you got that little red bike that awakened your love of riding, which carried right on into your adult life. That perfect powder day, when you and your fiancé skied run after run, then warmed up by the fire in the lodge. The vacation you still think about, how fun it was, how carefree you felt. Your wedding reception: the dancing, the inextinguishable joy of it all. Every moment you have ever been happy, thrilled, comforted, hopeful . . . that was God loving you. Such gifts come from no other source. “You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. . . . Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father” (Psalm 145:16; James 1:17)."
I know many of us have difficulty actually believing that we are loved by our heavenly parents and Savior, Jesus Christ. We believe it is for others, but do we actually believe it for ourselves? That, for me, is often where I have struggled.
John Eldredge has more to say on this, “We are talking about finding more of God. I assure you nothing, absolutely nothing, will bring you more of him than loving him. Turning our hearts toward God in love opens our being to receive him like no other practice. And it is a practice, something we consciously and actively engage in through the moments of our day-to-day.”
Think about it, if you love someone, you enjoy being with them, spending time with them, you serve them, and you thank them. Even friends, as our Savior calls us, we can love.
Yes, there are times we struggle with our loved ones. Yes, there are times our loved ones struggle with us. Yes, there are times we don't know what to do with our loved ones.
The difference, that really was the tipping point for me, comes from a talk from Henry B. Eyring back in the 2007 general conference called, "O Remember, Remember." In this talk, he asks us to ask several questions:
"Tonight, and tomorrow night, you might pray and ponder, asking the questions: Did God send a message that was just for me? Did I see His hand in my life or the lives of my children?"
How many of us actually take the time to do this every day? Sit and ponder, and ask how we've seen the hand of God in our lives each and every day? He is in the absolutely minute details of our lives.
I served my mission in Korea, and had the opportunity to have Henry B. Eyring visit my mission as a missionary. When he came, he shook each and every missionary hand, and, as he did so, he stared into our eyes. At that time, and for sometime after, I knew he was seeing everything in my soul as he did so. I recognize now, that, although that may have been true, he was also showing his own love for us.
He took the time to be with each of us. He took the time to speak to each of us, and to see us as we are.
This is the same way with our Savior. His suffering, death, and resurrection was no different. I am sure now more than ever that He took the time for each of us. To see into our souls, thoughts, and intentions on every action in our lives. Those that required his Atonement, He paid for and suffered. Those that did not, He took the time to understand and thanked us for our positive actions.
It all comes down to love, brothers and sisters. If we truly want to obtain all that our Father hath, we need to love Him! We need to take the time to truly ponder and thank Him for all that he gives us daily. We will then be graced to #HearHim!
We may be stuck at home, hopefully with those we love, and it's when we truly can understand His motivation, we can Love. Charity is the pure Love of Christ!
