The light...
In the scriptures light is described as life.
John 1:4 “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” Genesis 1:3 that on the first day of creation “God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Spiritually, light is sometimes a symbol of life that comes from a loving Creator who cares for creation. Just as all living things on Earth need sunlight to grow physically, people need the light of a loving relationship with God our divine creator to grow spiritually. When we fail to increase our light and divine understanding through drawing closer and developing a loving relationship with God, we linger in spiritual darkness also known as spiritual death.
Across many cultures Light is a symbol for understanding of divine intellectual thought. Light is said to conquer darkness and bring order to chaos. Spiritual light gives nourishment to our souls. This light is known as the Light of Christ. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” All mankind can enjoy the blessings of this divine gift. Jesus also stated, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid... Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Light conveys both an absence of darkness and a quality that will help us to see and understand more clearly. The Light of Christ will guide us through troubled times and challenges. Jesus said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Light appearing during a miracle often demonstrates that God is at work in our troubled situations. He is lovingly caring for us and he is blessing us in divinely enlightened and miraculous way. Those who see divine Light within us recognize it because it resides within them. Pure light is an extension of Jesus Christ, to have pure light is to be One with the Savior. When we are filled with the Light of Christ we are One with Him as He is One with Father. One of my favorite quotes by Jeffrey R. Holland, “No one can fall further than the light that Christ shines”. This divine Light gives hope for the hopeless, mercy for the merciful, joy for the sorrowful, and healing for the broken.
Apostle Joseph B. Wirthlin said this about the Light of Christ, “Have you ever thought about the amount of light and energy generated by our sun? The amount is almost beyond comprehension. Yet the heat and light that we receive come as a free gift from God. This is another proof of the goodness of our Heavenly Father. The light from the sun breaks through space, bathing our planet as it encircles the sun with life-giving warmth and light. Without the sun, there could be no life on this planet; it would be forever barren, cold, and dark... The Light of Christ is the divine influence that allows every man, woman, and child to distinguish between good and evil. It encourages all to choose the right, to seek eternal truth, and to learn again the truths that we knew in our premortal existence but have forgotten in mortality.”
So what is Divine Light? It is warmth, light is peace, light is love, light is knowledge, light is hope, light is healing, light is mercy, light is grace, light is joy, light is pure intelligence, light is goodness, light is creation, light is memory, light is our Savior, Jesus Christ, light is our Father and Mother in Heaven
